History of the Brickyard

Brickyard Pottery is housed in the old Brickyard School. Originally a one-room schoolhouse, it was built in 1921 to replace the wood frame schoolhouse that had burned down at the same site. The name “Brickyard” came from the fact that all of the bricks in the building were donated by one of the two large brickyards that flourished in Barronett in the early 1900’s. A part of the Shell Lake school district, the school closed permanently in the mid 1960’s. Brian and Mary Dosch purchased the building in 1977, and the business opened in 1980. The Dosches live, work, and sell their work at the Brickyard.
