Sarah Riley creates art with an innate narrative, filled with imagery of legends and lore from ages past, as well as timeless and contemporary dreams. Riley is inspired and influenced by the human form and nature, both being incredibly diverse and deeply spiritual.

Her portraits consist both of faces that she has imagined and people whom she admires for their artistic endeavors and overall significance in her life and in this world.  When Riley creates a portrait of someone, she strives not only to capture a physical likeness, but to also incorporate elements of the subject's personality and demeanor; it proves a unique challenge every time and she absolutely loves it.

Humbird | Live at Brickyard Pottery

Humbird (Siri Undlin) is a Minneapolis based singer-songwriter, poet, and storyteller inspired by the crystalline chill of her home state’s northern winters. Undlin twines experimental folk, environmental Americana, and orchestral compositions to forge an explorative embodiment of the narrative folk song and balladry tradition. Released in September 2019, her debut full length album, Pharmakon, engineered by Brian Joseph (Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens) and produced by Shane Leonard (Field Report), has been received with remarkable critical acclaim and has amassed nearly 20 million streams since its release. Folk Alley listed “Pharmakon” as one of their favorite songs of 2019 and at the end of week one, the album ranked #19 on the top NACC music charts and by week two was at #1 on the Folk charts - one of only two self-released albums to chart. Most recently she won the 2021 Kerrville Folk Festival’s song-writing competition was able to perform a set at the 49th annual festival this fall. Humbird is currently touring her third studio album, Still Life - released in 2021. Keep your eye out for the next release due in 2024!

A Humbird live performance is intimate and earthy, literal and metaphorical. The band nimbly prances around the lilt of Undlin’s unfaltering fervent and haunting voice - the focal point. Although the songs and stories hold their own, the embellishments the band supply add the perfect splash of timbre and color to deliver a dynamic and engaging performance.

*FREE CAMPING is available for after this event. Brickyard Pottery sits on two acres of land in the north woods of Wisconsin. Although we are not a campground, we recognize that many concert attendees may travel a significant distance for this event. We have ample space for tent camping as well as RV / van camping. A public bathroom is located inside Brickyard Pottery and will be accessible late night and early morning and extending throughout the following day.

Art Opening ~ Meg Erke | Rita Panton | Virginia Streitz ~ First Thursdays

Meg Erke is a mixed media artist and illustrator working in collage and painting. Her work is inspired by the natural world (most often the woods, water, and trees of the midwest) and how we look for and find ways to connect with each other through art and nature. She is the author and illustrator of “Minnealphabet:  An Outdoorsy Homage to Minneapolis”, a picture book celebrating the city’s unique connection to natural spaces.  Meg has a BA in Visual Art from Luther College and her Masters of Education from Lesley University.  It was during her undergraduate years that she first fell in love with Book Arts and Painting as forms of artistic expression. It took another decade and leaving her career in middle and high school arts education to find ways to integrate the two mediums together. Meg’s paintings often include found text from salvaged and broken books and her Minnealphabet series includes text from old travel guides about the Twin Cities area.

Rita Panton is a ceramic artist who resides in Minneapolis.  She earned her BFA from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and in 2020 received an Emerging Artist Grant from the Jerome Foundation.  A plant lover, pastry chef, collector, hiker, and mother, Rita splits her time between the studio, the kitchen, the forest, and her family.

Panton’s work follows the tradition of visual storytelling in clay.  She records her generation’s personalities and frames of mind through drawings.  Her sculptures share glimpses of characters being themselves, often exhibiting attitudes, awkwardness and fears.  Panton explores the themes of hyperbole and balance while creating pieces that are a hybrid of flat and sculptural.

Virginia Streitz is a potter, painter and co-owner of Brickyard Pottery.

Music at Brickyard | Surge and the Swell

Surge and the Swell is the solo and collaboration vehicle of Minnesota-based, Americana and Indie-folk, singer-songwriter Aaron Cabbage. Born in Kentucky, raised in Southeast Texas via Indiana and now calling Minnesota home, his influences run North to South. Cabbage pulls in collaborators based on the venue or the needs of the record. Members of Surge and the Swell include some of Minnesota's most well known musicians: Adam Levy - Guitar, Production, Songwriting mentor (Turn Turn Turn, Honeydogs) //Noah Levy - Drums/Percussion, (Brian Setzer, Peter Frampton, Golden Smog) //Isaac Levy - Bass, Guitars //Katie Gearty - Vocals //Sarah Souder - Vocals //Steve Wold - Mandolin/Dobro //Matthew Kirkwold - Guitars //The Lead single from the debut LP features organ by special guest Kevin Gastonguay (Cory Wong, Cory and the Wong Notes)

The title track of the initial EP “Love 4000”, is a timely anthem to the long distance relationship in the era of technology-enabled romance and more recently, the pandemic travel restrictions. Other songs on the debut EP deal with fresh starts, mindfulness and first sparks.

DEBUT LP/NEW AL BUM (MARCH 4, 2022)

In the 2022 debut LP, "Offering", Cabbage set out to create "soaring-chorus Americana" with a theme of "accepting the new normal". Songs like "Full in the Now", "Hard Work" and "Gravity Boots" were inspired by the shifts in daily life experienced in the global pandemic and stresses placed on the workforce. The songs on this album are were written to be performed on a big stage celebrating outdoor music or in more intimate settings with an acoustic guitar with warm harmonies.

We are thrilled to have North Dakota singer/songwriter David Allen play the Brickyard's 1st INDOOR SHOW!!! We managed to convince David to make a pit stop off of Highway 63 while making his way north from a gig in Rochester and on his way up to another show in Duluth.

*DAVID ALLEN started out singing in bars during his time as a construction worker living in rural North Dakota. His style brings you back to the roots of country reminiscent of Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash. No bullshit, just straight up good music out of the heart and through a glass of whiskey and a cigarette. Find out more at https://www.davidallenmusic.com/.

Over the past few years David has opened for various national touring acts. Some of which include, Todd Snider, Dave Simonett (Trampled by Turtles), Damien Jurado, Corb Lund, Parmalee, and Phillip Phillips.

*JASON STREITZ, co-owner of Brickyard Pottery, is a singer/songwriter who has played in and around Minneapolis for over twenty years in several bands. Jason is currently the front man for Midwest Americana band The Long Odds. “Traces of early Uncle Tupelo and Jayhawks trickle into this fiddle-spiked Twin Cities alt-twang quintet’s promising debut album “Level Ground”, recorded at Pachyderm Studio with a guest spot by Yonder Mountain’s Allie Kral” — Chris Riemenschneider - STAR TRIBUNE

The Long Odds have shared the stage with a wide range of national and local acts including Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Nathan Kalish, Invisible Boy, Kind Country, Gabe Barnett and Them Rounders, Bruise Violet, Jay Lenz (Pert Near Sandstone), The Drug Budget, Warren Thomas Fenzi, Jake Ilika and Bernie King and the Guilty Pleasures at prominent venues such as The Parkway Theater, Turf Club, Icehouse, Lee’s Liquor Lounge, The Cabooze, Como Dockside Pavillion, 331 Club and The Aster Café.

The Northwest Wisconsin Fall Splendor Art Meander is a self-guided tour of twenty-three galleries and studios in eight towns and villages during the fall color change. The Meander celebrates the living and creating spaces of local artists and features the work of some of the area’s best painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, crafters, upcycle artisans, writers and musicians.

The Art Meander starts Friday, September 27th, 10:00 to 6:00, Saturday, September 28th, 10:00 to 5:00 and Sunday, September 29th, 11:00 to 3:00, including the cities and villages of Webster, Spooner, Shell Lake, Sarona, Cumberland, Rice Lake, Chetek and Dallas along and just off US Highways 63 and 53.  This event is in its 10th year. Each artist’s work will be on display and several will give live demonstrations. Many of the sponsors will also host artists as well as poets and musicians who will be performing at select locations. The Art Meander gives visibility to some of the region’s most experienced artists and introduces many emerging creatives to tourists and residents alike.

The Fall Splendor Art Meander was established when a small band of accomplished artists decided to combine their efforts and organize an art crawl to invite “meanderers” to tour their studios and galleries during the beautiful autumn color change. The Fall Splendor Art Meander has grown to include eight cities, towns and villages where over twenty private studios and retail brick and mortar art galleries host some of this region’s best artists and crafters.

"The art and craft industry enriches our homes, bodies, wardrobes, offices and public spaces.

It contributes to the nation’s economy, its balance of trade, and the fabric of our national history.

It is original, beautiful and enduring.”
