Way back in 1980, Brian and Mary Dosch discovered an abandoned brick schoolhouse, and much to the chagrin of their families, they bought the building and moved in. The dream was a place to live, raise a family, grow a garden and sell their artwork. And that’s what happened as Brickyard Pottery came to life as the first art gallery in the area.
After forty years of producing and selling their own artwork as well as promoting and selling that of dozens of other area artists, Mary and Brian were ready to embark on a well deserved retirement.
In the fall of 2019, Minneapolis based potter / painter Virginia Streitz, along with musician husband Jason and two daughters were passed the baton and took the reins. Jason and Virginia instantly fell in love with the undeniable charm of the Brickyard and the surrounding community.
In April of 2021 the pottery kiln and shed were sadly lost to a fire. After two years of rebuilding and firing pottery in Minneapolis, Brickyard is once again a pottery business with a kiln!
Co-owner Jason Streitz is a musician and has brought live music to Brickyard. With a business name shift to Brickyard Pottery & Folk House, along with a new outdoor stage in 2025, and the occasional indoor listening room concerts in the gallery, live music is not to be missed at Brickyard. With a focus on seasoned singer-songwriters who write their own songs, Brickyard is a rare gem where you can see top-notch local, regional, national and international touring artists. We have been lucky enough to host some of our favorites including Charlie Parr, Humbird, Roe Family Singers, David Huckfelt, Annie Humphrey, and SonofMel, to name a few.
