Kiln Firing

To make stoneware we must first strengthen your pottery by bisque firing it in our indoor electric kiln - $1.25 per lb. Next, we fire it in the large outdoor propane kiln - $15 per sq ft. Prices are subject to change as our cost of materials and production may change.

The cost of glazes (we mix our own glazes), electricity, propane and our time is included in the fee.

The cost to fire the bisque kiln is calculated by weight. The cost to fire in the large propane kiln is calculated by volume. Why? Because we can stack pots on top of each other (to some degree) in the electric bisque kiln. We cannot stack items in the glaze firing.

Loading, firing and unloading the large propane kiln is a 3 day process (+ 2 to 3 days of cooling after the firing). The propane kiln is fired up to 2350 degrees and takes time to cool down.

*If you have your own glazes and clay and would like to rent a larger portion of the kiln(s) or the entire kiln, to fire your work, let us know and we can discuss.
